What is MaxPanel?
What you'll learn: what MaxPanel does, who it's for, and what you can do with it once it's set up.
In one sentence
MaxPanel is a web-based control panel that helps you run a hosting business — or simply host your own websites — without having to touch the command line every day.
What it does for you
Think of MaxPanel as the dashboard for your server. Once it's installed, you (and the people you give accounts to) can do all the everyday hosting tasks from a friendly web page:
- Host websites — add a domain, upload your files, and you're online.
- Send and receive email — create mailboxes like
you@yourbusiness.com. - Run databases — for WordPress, custom apps, or anything else.
- Install WordPress in one click, and create a safe staging copy to try changes.
- Take backups automatically to Amazon S3 or another server, and restore from them when you need to.
- Manage many customers if you're reselling hosting — give each customer their own login with their own resource limits.
Who is it for?
MaxPanel fits two kinds of people:
- Small hosting providers and freelancers who manage hosting for several clients and want a clean dashboard to do it from.
- Anyone with a server who wants a friendly way to host their own sites and email without learning Linux server administration.
What it's not
- It is not a website builder. You bring your own website (WordPress, a static site, a custom app, etc.) and MaxPanel hosts it for you.
- It is not a shared hosting service you sign up to. You install MaxPanel on your own server, which gives you full control and predictable costs.
What you need to get started
- A server running Ubuntu 24.04 (we'll help you pick one — see What kind of server do I need?)
- A domain name you can point at the server
- About 15 minutes for the first install
