Moving your license to a different server
Moving your license to a different server
What you'll learn: how to safely move your MaxPanel license to a new server, without paying for a second license.
When you might do this
- You're upgrading to a bigger server.
- You're switching hosting providers.
- Your old server is being decommissioned.
You don't need a new license — your existing one can be re-bound to a different server.
The high-level plan
- Set up the new server (Ubuntu 24.04, install MaxPanel, get HTTPS working).
- Copy your data from the old server to the new server.
- Re-bind your license to the new server.
- Point your panel domain (and customer domains) at the new server's IP.
- Decommission the old server.
This is a sensitive operation — your customers' websites and email are involved. We recommend you contact support before you start, so we can guide you through it and re-bind the license at the right moment. We do this regularly and it's quick.
Before you start
- Have the new server ready and reachable.
- Make sure you have recent backups (you do, right?).
- Plan a quiet maintenance window — there will be a brief moment where DNS changes are spreading and customers may see a delay.
Re-binding the license
Licenses are tied to a server fingerprint. To move:
- From your customer portal at https://maxpanel.cenmax.in, open License and click Re-bind to new server, or contact support and we'll do it for you.
- Enter the same license token on the new server's
/licensepage. - The old server's license becomes invalid; the new one is now active.
After moving
- Visit the new panel and confirm everything looks right.
- Update DNS so customer domains point at the new server.
- Once everything is verified, shut down the old server.
If something goes wrong
This is the kind of operation where a small mistake can cause downtime. Please reach out to support before or during the move — we're happy to help and prefer to spot problems early.
